Jo Bowen - 6th Grade
“I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it… we are in charge of our Attitudes.” (Charles Swindoll) As a strong believer in positive thinking and the importance of a good attitude, I feel so fortunate to be teaching at this wonderful school which fosters Charles Swindoll’s philosophy. Waking up each morning and spending my day with wonderful students and an amazing staff is more energizing than a shot of espresso! I am thrilled about the fantastic field trips we have planned and look forward to a productive, fun, and educational school year!
A little bit about myself - I was born in Mendon, Utah to a wonderful family whom I love dearly and visit as often as possible. I have lived in New York, Nebraska, and San Francisco and have come to appreciate the beauty and serenity of the mountainous deserts of Idaho. I love reading about the intriguing past of the human race, from the epic Persian battles to the intricate creation of our great nation. Another passion of mine is biking. I spend much of my free time flying along the open road or climbing up steep mountain trails with my loyal companion, Rinah, by my side. Rinah is my beautiful little Sheltie (most of you know her as my “little girl”). If you have a student in my class, they will definitely be hearing about her!
I graduated from Utah State University with a BS in History. After graduating, I moved to Pocatello and starting working at The Academy. I am a firm believer in
the Harbor Method, and am continuously impressed and “wowed” by the results in my students, co-workers, and myself when living the Harbor Philosophy.
On a closing note, these amazing young 6th graders have an extraordinary amount to offer and I feel particularly grateful to be a part of their lives. I hope
as they leave my class, they will feel ready and motivated to meet both life’s challenges and joys.
